Oil Light Flickering

Hey Fellas,
My 65' dashboard oil light is flickering on and off. When I start it up, the light is steadily on. After driving a few minutes the oil light flickers on and off. Once warmed up goes out for a few minutes, then flickers.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Which motor? If an FE, fill it to the add mark and add one more quart/litre when hot. Maybe try it if it isn't an FE too...
You can temporarily plumb in a known-accurate gauge where the sender screws in to test your gauge. Most have the same thread.

Suggest check connectors secure, clean and and no expose wiring both at the sending unit and gauge. Also check same with the circuits running from the Constant Voltage Regulaor/Unit to the gauges, a loose or faulty regulator or connection possibly effecting the others. CVR is usually located on the back of the instrument panel. Believe the oil light is grounded at the socket to panel, if bulb is faulty or socket loose could result in poor ground. Finally, there are 2 types of sending units, 1 for gauge another type for light. Anyhow, food for thought?

That is a good schematic Dave posted but I think it only deals with a gauge. The idiot lights run on 12V and the switch on the engine is just a ground for the light and is normally closed," the light burns", at about 5 to 10 psi it opens and the light goes out. You probably just have a bad switch or the red/white wire is frayed and grounding out somewhere. Unless your rods are rattling. In that case you don't have any oil pressure and the light is just fine.

You are guessing unless you connect a manual gauge and read the oil pressure directly. If it's low, 6 psi or less, then you have some work to do; either a worn oil pump, severely worn engine bearings or both.
