hi, i have a 1988 F150 4x4,351 W C6 ,short bed ,duel tanks,40k miles,,,it was a plow truck, off the road for 15+ years very nice condition..i got it back on the road in august,,,,replaced the front gas tank and sender and fuel pump, has been running good until last week, started losing power up hills,2 days ago lost a lot of power, started popping thru the throttle body about 2000 rpm, replaced the front fuel filter,no change, checked the plastic duel tank canister ,no filter in it and clean fuel, checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, with a gauge read 34 psi ,reved the engine it went down to 20 psi, took it for a ride it went down to 10 psi, installed a new hi pressure pump ,at it will not pump fuel.returned it to auto zone, got a new on it will not pump fuel,i can hear the pump run for about 3 sec, when you turn the key,,,the truck would idle and run on the old pump from both tanks,,,thank you for any help,,,Ed
A lot of times the replacement high pressure pumps aren't the same plug as the original, any chance you wired it backwards. The pump will run backwards, just won't pump.
there is a relay hidden on the firewall, sometimes near or behind the brake booster that fails. my dad had the exact same thing happen and we found that relay was bad.
Also check the pressure regulator. that may be bad as well.
Check voltage with pump running (under load). Check it as close to the pump as you can. A voltage drop under load indicates a bad connection at some point.
Check pressure and flow as close to the fuel rail as possible. Pressure and flow are not the same thing.
