Hi I have a 2000 ford excursion and mY boyfriend was about to back the truck up this morn and he hella pushed the gas before he put it into reverse and then all of a sudden The drive line just broke .. someone told me it just came loose and fell off but not sure if that’s what happen, so just wanted to get some more help .. am I gonna need to replace the whole part or does anyone know what exact parts I’m goin to need. I want to add pics but not sure hoif I can upload them
Yeah, pictures will help very much. We would need to know exactly what broke and how, could be a broken U joint, flange, slip yoke, tube, or.......
And keep your hella pushin the gas boyfriend out of your truck!
Yep, looks like a big-ish lift that didn't get the driveshaft lengthened when it needed it to be. The hella hard on the gas reverse shot caused the rear differential to rotate downward and that pulled the slip yoke apart. That slip yoke must have been nearly fully extended due to the lift.
Take a measurement from the flange that the front U joint mounts to back to the flange for the rear U joint and give that measurement and both parts of the driveshaft to a good driveline shop.
A good shop can add a few inches as needed to your factory driveshaft, lifts over a certain amount typically need this done to prevent what happened here from happening.
Ok last pic I got under my truck and lifted it up so you guys can see how long it is .. and thsnx so much for all your guys help it really helped .. I’m thinkin I just need a new boot right
Yes, a new boot is needed. The slip yoke can be put back together and used as-is, but if it popped out once, it will do it again. Either it's too short and needs to be lengthened or something is allowing the rear axle to move too much causing the yoke to over extend and fall apart.
Grease the inside of the slip yoke up before you fit it back together.
from what i can see the rear axel was able to rotate since the blocks plus the slapper blade is removed so nothings stopping it like on modded leaf springs , But as WE3ZS(tom) said it happened once and mostlikly will happen again and could potentaily cause damage so its best to remove it and get the measurements needed to lengthen the drive shafe to future proof it. also readding that excursion leaf blade with the stubby rubber block will also help from keeping your leaves from wrapping on the block when flooring it in drive/reverse
Ok thanks so much guys I will be back often to get ur guys help .. their is always somethin happening with my excursion .. I think since it’s so lifted .. but yep u guys r great 😉
Here’s a not too good pic of my big Bertha lol .. thanks again talk to u all soon
