I have a problem. I bought a "new" motor to slap into my dually over the weekend. I heard the motor run while it was in the excursion it come out of sounded clean and strong. So i bought it and brought it back. While it was in the bed of my truck i pulled the front cover off and changed the timing chains and tensioners and oil pump. Well i go to put the cover back on it cracks due to the crank gear being different than the one already on. so i swapped it out and put on the other cover. Im 99.999% sure i got the timing right becuase one the chains dark links and dots matched up. two, both lobes on cylinder number one were up. three, it started for a second. However it took a ton of holding the key on. The probem is its turning over extreamly slow even with it being jumped off my other truck. Its like rrrRRRrrrrrr rrrrrrrRRRrrrrrr ect.. I have 12.5 volts at the battery post but on the little wire strap not an inch from it i only have 5v so i thought i wonder if i jumped straigt to the starter with the jumper cables and bypass the cables all together if id be better. didnt do a thing. I havent put the radiator core support or anything like that on yet because of this. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP Thanks!!
Truck is a 2001 f350 6.8L V10 the engine went bad due to jumping time and punching a hole in the piston (before i bought it). The replacement engine came out of a 2000 Excursion its also a V10. They were the exact same motors i just swapped out the flywheels and the throttle. Both are PI engines. Ground strap from battery to frame and then runs back to the the starter area but bolts onto the block looks good. Starter cable has some cheap clamp style terminal on it at the battery but other than that it looks to be fine. I also didnt have any the accessories on the motor just the cover.
I did not. But I did have the new motor running in my truck for about 5 seconds before it died. It just turning over too slow to start the truck. It was doing that before it started the first time as well it just started Idk how. What would that stuff you mentioned have to do with it turning over slow.
I got it figured out guys. That little pos battery terminal was bad. It was clean and looked good but wasn't letting the power through. Found that out by probing it with the volt meter and the inside lights come on. Replaced it fired right up.
