hello, i have a 2001 7.3 and need to replace it. i bought a early 1999 before i know there was a difference. i put the bigger turbo and the wires off the 2001. it does everything except start. so i went got the computer out of the 1999 and it has a different plug. so my question is can i put the heads off the 2001 and that make the older engine work?i was told the older has smaller injectors . i don't see any other differences and don't understand why it wont start, any help.yes engine ran and was running when i pulled engine

What exactly have you switched over? What does the truck try and do when you try to start it? Do you have any kind of reader (search the forum for Forscan if not!) in which to read sensors and codes?
Pulling the heads and just randomly changing out parts is a very expensive, drawn out process which could all be averted if one sensor is found not to be plugged back in somewhere...
I know it’s frustrating when things don’t work the way you expect, but I guarantee you have some to the right place, and with some information and a little bit of time the forum will definitely steer you in the right direction....
i pulled all the sensors off the original motor and wiring harness. i was told this motor will not work. and i just cant believe i can. i have worked on simi over 30 years. just never these small trucks.and i have heads injectors
There is no reason that the E99 engine won't work in that swap. The differences are turbo, pedestal, plenums, spider, turbo intake tube, intake air heater up pipes and maybe a thing or two that I can't think of at the moment. Did you swap over all of the above? And I don't know what plug you say doesn't match, this is a new one on me, are you sure you're trying the right connector to the right computer?
had it scanned, shows low oil pressure low fuel pressure. i think it may be the injector o rings. everything else shows good. not getting any fuel no smoke out of tail pipe at all

Can you hear the pump running? Put a 3/8 hose on the fuel bowl drain, open drain , turn key on and see if fuels flows.
You really need to get something to monitor data for us to help you. Torquepro or Forscan are highly recommended programs here and they can be used with a tablet or cell phone. You need a WiFi or Bluetooth adapter with them as well but that way we can see what is actually going on. The 7.3 doesn't monitor fuel pressure so I'm not sure who told you that was a code that came up as lo what low oil pressure are you talking about? Low ICP (injection control pressure)?
