I'd probably have to go and toss that square through the window at Home Depot. Not really, but boy that bites!
I built a 16 X 16 deck and made the outside 4x4's all 8' tall so I could put a roof on it. I decided to put a hip roof on it cause I thought it would look neat. Thank goodness I had bought a compound miter saw. I got it on there, but the rafters on one side didn't quit match up with the rafters on the other three sides. It's plenty solid, put it wasn't perfect. After doing some checking I discovered my 16 X 16 base was really 16 X 16' 1". Whoops. I don't know how it happened but it was my fault so naturally I blamed my wife.
Now she lets me sleep out there. lol.

By the way, men. The water level did work. Went to Home Depot and bought a spool of 1/2" clear tubing (about 100 LF) and checked my transit. It was off about and inch. Only thing is: the scope is damaged internally and has to be repaired (the crosshairs are out of alignment) Guess it was the years of jostling around in the truck that did it. Time for a new one anyway.
Funny how you get used to things - like the crosshairs being lopsided - guess I just adjusted my eyes over time to fit the tool.
Wonder what else I've unknowingly adjusted to? Hmmm....
