One more shot

Posted a few days back and did not get any replies so i will try one more time. 1954 ford all original 239 ohv manual 3 speed. Checked fuel gauge and gaue is good. Installed new tank and sending unit from Macs and found out ohms did not match gauge as it would not work. Order another from mid fifty that works with original gauge with 6 volt reducer installed (truck has been converted to 12 volts). Turn ignition on and needle did not move at all. Took sender out of tank and hooked it up and moved arm and would move to nearly 1/4 tank when arm is moved all the way to full. Any help would be appreciated.

I cant help you. I hate electrical issues! Good luck in your search for the clues. Sounds like you have a nice truck!

Aftermarket(non OE) senders won't work right with Ford gauges. At least not for me.
Use an original Ford sender with the 6v reducer it will work.

Hey Saauveen
These original Ford Fuel Gauges are a bit bizarre. They are bimetallic
& work off of heat ..believe it or not. You have to have a Ford sending unit to
talk to this strange deal. See below for a bit more about how they work.

Good luck over there.

That thread is great! Thanks for linking it. Those guys are way over my head but it will help out when I get to the point of messing with my gauges. Greg.
