Hi, my name is Greg and I am living in Europe. Yesterday I made a testrun with a '86 F250. I'm no expert at ford trucks, so I ask here. The steering column seems to come out of the firewall not in the right angle (90°). So if I put my hands on the steering wheel on the left and right edges, my right hand is closer to me than the left hand.
So my question is not about the wheel alignment or centering of steering wheel, it's about the positioning from the side view to the car.
Does anyone know, if this can be a major issue? I would like to know before a may buy the truck...
If it is an issue, how can I solve it?
a second issue:
the seat belts are not fixing. Somewhere I read that they are constructed to fix only when brakes are activated and not when I jerky pull the seat belt.
can I find somewhere a shop manual to buy for a '86 F250?
thanks
Greg

Reason: interest to buy truck
What side is the steering wheel on? As you are sitting in the truck, the left side or the right side? I think they made right hand steering versions for Australia.
You are right about the seat belts. If you want to test them, park it on a steep hill. They should then lock. They have a pendulum that swings and locks them when the brakes are applied.
the issue with the steering wheel is solved...it got slipped off position because drivers too often pulled themselves into the cabin by grabbing the wheel when entering ;-) I just re-positioned the steering column into center

I bought one of the Ford factory service manual sets on CD on Ebay, and it's been great so far. Mine was for a 1984 of course, but same thing as linked below.
