Does any one here have any sugestions on drilling into a rear bumper on a '03 250. I want to install backup sensors but don't want my new bumper to rust out when I make holes for the sensors. Any ideas, any one?
Just maske the area and spray it with rust resistant paint. All you are looking at is the edge of the hole nothing else will be affected. Just remember to center punch so you don't walk all over the bumper.
The best strategy I have found for drilling in difficult situations is startout and drill your first hole with a small bit.....say 3\16th's or so and then increase your size by 1\8 th inch increments.....until you arrive at the size you need.....Also, Ford says very explicitly that "WE" are to NOT weld on these frames as the heat affects the strength of the metal. Just what i read! s.kuteman

Just wondering what brand you are using? I have been looking for one of these myself but can only find these things with what appear to be, cheap, plastic discs with double sided tape. You tape them on. Looks really crappy for $175.00. I got no problem drilling my bumper.
Go to your local hardware store/Home Depot and pick your self up a thing called a Unibit. You start out with using a small drill bit , then use the unibit and go from their.
Works wonders for drilling holes in metal to the exact size you need....
does unbit have a bit that wold fit the size of ford's back up sensors? is there such thing as chrome tuoch up paint? if there is just drill holes and touch up paint the rim after drilled......

Yes, rustoleum even has chrome touch up paint... works WELL !
Our Lincoln LS's aftermarket exhaust tips started rusting on the end in the inside - looked bad so I wire brushed them as best I could and masked everything and sprayed the chrome paint and it's been fine for about 2k miles and looks great - even with the heat....
