Today I undertook the project of installing the Raptor Style grill lights from Stage 3 Motorsports.
I had never removed a grill before on any vehicle.
This is a very easy project. The lights have a very OEM look to them as they match the color and intensity of the other marker lights perfectly.
If anyone decides to do this project here are some tips and thoughts.
Get a tool to remove the plastic tabs that hold the shroud covering the top of the radiator. You can get one at any auto parts store for less than $10. I bought an entire trim piece removal kit from Amazon for $15 and received several different tools.
When removing the grill I would suggest loosening it a bit from the top and then pull only on one side of the grill. It come come loose easier.
I did NOT have to remove the bottom part of the grill...I just leaned it towards me and slid the Raptor lights into position. Then did a little mock up to make sure everything was going to fit. Then I wanted to make sure the lights worked.
My hands are to big to get to the plug for the driver side marker light so I had to remove not only the washer fluid neck but also the driver side batter. It added maybe 5 minutes to the project but it sure made it easier to get to the plug.
The good news about our trucks (if you have dual batteries) is if you disconnect one battery you still have power to the truck. Everything still works. So I could keep an eye on my connections confirming all was secure and working properly while one of the batteries was disconnected.
Before I replaced the battery and washer neck I then secured the wires with some zip ties.
I have already received several compliments from a soccer game I attended today from other truck guys who saw me pull up.
I put them on my truck as well. Easy to install and are much brighter than expected. Wired to the upfitter Aux 1. Gives the truck a few extra eyes coming at you.
I had a set of these on my 2014 and 2016 F250s. I kept them when I traded the truck.
Of course, the bracket won't work on a 2017 at the top side of the grille so I was able to make them work on the bottom side. Looks good to me and I didn't have to modify the old or spend money on a new one.
Pic not that great because it was taken during the afternoon, but you get the idea. First shot is the style I had before. Seller still has them on ebay, but I bought them locally. The seller lives about 12 miles from me.
Second shot is that style light/bracket on my 2017.
Thanks all for the night shots - looking good! I will likely add these - had something similar on my F150 too. Appreciate the links to the sources too.
