I have read a number of threads about the Optimum rinse-less wash and decided to try it. It sounded like it might be a good solution for washing in cold weather. It worked well except for a couple of things. I live a number of miles outside of town (my ZIP code is E I E I O), and back a long gravel lane. Obviously, not using a hose doesn't allow me to spray the gunk out of the wheel wells, off the tires, and off the running boards. Additionally, with the way the front brakes dust, I couldn't get the wheels (front especially) clean. I was thinking of hitting the manual car wash in town, soaping then rinsing the truck to hit all of the nasty spots, then run it home to do the rinse-less wash. Do any of you who use the rinse-less wash see a problem with this?
I do a lot of rinseless in the winter. LOTS of road salt and sand in the high snowfall area of north central New York. I do what you are considering, but just use plain water rinse at the coin-up or at home. Gets the heavy dirt off ready for a rinseless wash inside the garage! Sometimes I'll use shower head type outside plant watering can if just the exterior paint needs the pre-wash.
I pre-spray the dirtier panels with "waterless" (stronger mix) and wipe with "rinseless" (less strong mix) folded soaked towel. Then dry with clean, dry towel (detail spray optional).
When a towel gets dirty, toss it in the laundry bag and use a fresh towel. On a Super Duty, a dozen or more towels in the winter is not at all unreasonable. This approach of never putting a dirty towel back into the wash water is well documented as "Garry Dean Method"
I use Adams Rinseless product mixed 16:1 for waterless and 256:1 for rinseless. I makes batches by the gallon. It will store for many months pre-mixed using distilled water.
I had Opti-coat pro applied to my truck in April and have used Optimum No-Rinse since. There is a HUGE difference in the amount of dirt that sticks and how easy it is to clean off. Mixing 2oz per gallon of distilled to make a detail spray and then using that as a "pre-soak" works pretty good on the tougher spots. Washing the truck off in town and then driving home will promote water spots as the water dries. It would be better to use a small pressure washer at home to get the heavy stuff and then pull the truck inside. I use the 2 bucket method with a microfiber mitt and then dry with these https://www.theragcompany.com/platin...-drying-towel/. Using the same process on the wife's Expedition is mostly the same, just that the dirt sticks more. The more dirt that you can get off the finish before you touch it with anything with prevent scratches.
