cylinder head help
I'm begging the Ford brotherhood to help me out.
Corrosion/calcification in cylinder head water passages is BAD. As I'm cleaning I notice something loose. There are some type of water restrictor plugs pressed into the head. Pics show one completely gone, one partially gone, and one "ok". They are easy enough to remove, but what are they called and WHERE CAN I BUY REPLACEMENTS? I've been searching with no luck at all.
Removed
Mostly corroded out
"good" so to speak
What I do see is some of the water passages blocked off by "crud" that built up in the cooling system over time.
Some engines do not use all the passages that are cast/machined into the head surface. They usually get blocked off by the head gasket. Some gaskets have holes that don't match up with any holes in the head as well.
This happens most often when the head gaskets are the same for both right and left bank.
If you have the old and new gaskets compare them and see if any of the passages are covered.

I would think those would be part of a gasket set, or sold as part of a set by your friendly MB dealer.
They should show in the parts catalogue also.
In that link I posted if you go page by page you will find a cam follower shim made from a Stanley razor blade. Perhaps you will have to resort to the same sort of field engineering.....
