Question for NRA members

When I joined the NRA my membership number was" NRA" followed by a six digit number, and I don't remember how long ago that was, but I am considering on canceling.. My question is, why is the NRA pushing so hard for CCW permits? The only opinion I got from anyone was that they had to "give a little"...That's giving too much. That's doing what the Government wants..Registration.. I see no reason why a citizen should have to be registered, fingerprinted, and taxed, to be able to protect themselves and still not be allowed to carry across State lines.. Criminals will carry, permit or not. It is no different than registering guns, that the NRA say they are against.
They print every State that they "won" a carry permit law but gave no mention of Alaska's new law that permits conceled carry without any government requirements like Vermont.. For this reason I will be switching over to Gun Owners Of America, who helped get the law passed.
When the Democrats tried to restrict the First Amendment to quiet Rush Limbach, the media got all over them like "stink on a goat" and that ended their quest..I wish they cared a bit for the rest of the Constitution..
I am going to join the GOA but if someone can give me good reasons why honest citizens should have to submit to registration and have unorganized Government restriction forced on them so they can protect themselves, I'll retain my NRA membership also.. Thanks for any replies..

Question for NRA members

I don't think there are any good reasons for it. Registration just makes it easier when the day comes to point fingers at who has a gun.

Question for NRA members

Here in Alabama we have a ccw permit that is basically just a simple background check. You do not have to "register" any weapon to get a permit. All of your weapons are registered when you purchase them from a licensed dealer. The only way to purchase a weapon and not register it is to buy from an individual. Here in the county where I live the permit cost is $20 a year. The permit alows you to carry a handgun on your person except in certain areas like government buldings and such.
As far as convincing you to stay as a member of the NRA, that is a choice that only you can or shouold make. No organization can please everyone of it's members all the time.

Question for NRA members

The NRA is a large group of well meaning people, trying to stop the gun grabbers..

I am a life member of the NRA, and a paying member of GOA..

Question for NRA members

I am not an NRA member, but I have NEVER heard of any NRA member selling guns on the black market. I don't think there is much of a problem with NRA members smuggling guns into the country. In fact, I would like to know how many NRA members were busted for trafficking drugs. If there are any, Its not much of a problem because the "Gun Control" fanatics would be all over the news screaming about it.

To all "Gun Control" lobby; It's not the NRA you have to worry about. All their actions (selling and buying of guns) is done in public, legally, in broad daylight.

We should be concerned about the trading of arms in the back ally. Away from the public. They are the criminals. They are the threat. Not the NRA.

Maybe I'll become a member. The more the merrier

Question for NRA members

As I see it 2 states have no ccw permits and let you do as you please.Thats great in my book but look at the others. Most want to restrict gun ownership so maybe in the NRAs oppion its better to give a little and get CCW laws on the books and go from there .

We all know in this world it always has to be a give and take. And sometimes we win more and sometimes we lose.

The laws also say that records should not be kept and are to be destroyed are they??

I feel I am better serving the pro gun moument with my support of all Pro gun clubs,NRA,GOA,2nd AF.And others.
Its only a few bucks each year..

Lets see they put thousands of laws on the books ,how many do they ever REMOVE???? Maybe 1 or 2 a year??

So how far and how much money do you think it would take to remove 10,000 bad gun laws???

So lets fight to get more pro gun owners the right to carry!!In every state, we can then get them the right to carry everywhere.

Then lets look at these silly gun laws that dont work or do nothing and get them removed..

The anti gunner go after a little piece every chance they get and they get a few ,That in turn adds up to a larger piece.

We as Pro gun owners have to think the same way we need to go after every little piece we can !!!

We need to look at the LONG run.

If you are a member stay a member of what ever PRO gun group and send them what you can. And if you are NOT a member than join one or two groups. And help Pro gunners and yourself.
We have to stay the course!!!
Now will other states let Akaska or Vermont gun owners carry in there state??
So thats Great as long as you stay in your home state.
I want to carry everywhere I go and NOT be a breaking that states gun laws!!

We all have to stick together !!!

Question for NRA members

If all the gun owners were members of the NRA, we would not have all the problems that we do with the anti's.

Question for NRA members

I also have a Concealed Carry permit. And I agree with the above post that said your guns are already registered unless you bought from an individual. In Montana you need a concealed carry permit to carry hidden weapons in the cities, but out in the county you can carry any way you want.

We need all gun owners to back any pro-gun rights organization we can. No group will ever please everyone. Some people are more radical than others.

But ALL gun owners need to band together and let our government know that we will not go quietly or easily, like what happened in Australia and England. Criminals, if they know you are not armed, will strike hard and fast. But when they are in doubt, they more often than not, think twice before entering an armed house or approaching a possibly armed citizen.

No one wants to have to use that concealed weapon, but if the need arises, as it often does, we want the GOD given right to defend ourselves and our families.

Question for NRA members

I thank you guys for your input... I guess I'm a bit more distrustfull of the Government than most... I haven't bought a "registered" gun in 15 years and since then, I can hardly get the door of my gun safe closed...I buy them from people in their homes or from "straight looking" sellers at gun shows.. I would never buy one that I thought might be stolen..
I 'll go with Theo's post... I'll stay with the NRA , [I like their two magizines], and I'll join the GOA and send them my yearly donations.....I always did say, that Government isn't conserned with our safety as far as guns go, just money..The fact that there are millions of firearms out there, and they have no way yet to tax them, is driving the politicians nuts... When they know where the guns are, they'll know where to go for tax money ...

Question for NRA members

I believe it's already been mentioned but here in Oregon you do not register your weapons with the government. Purchases are only recorded by the vendor and are not passed on to any government agency. I had my pistol stolen and reported it to the police. They asked for the serial number (which my idiot self didnt' have) and I told them I didn't have it but the gun is registered so they should have it on file or whatever. They basically told me to take a hike. Unless they had the serial number my gun would never be returned. They told me to go to the dealer and get the number. They won't even do that for you. I then went to the dealer I bought it from and they couldn't find it either. They wanted to know the exact date I bought it on??? I can't remember the exact date 3 or 4 years ago. So the gun is gone forever.

My point is that people shouldn't get too worked up about the perception that the government is keeping real close tabs on our guns. At least here they're not. I could shoot someone with my registered gun and leave it lying right on top of the body and would never be caught by the serial number or registration process. Fingerprints or dna etc etc.... maybe.

This could change in the future of course which I am against but right now they don't seem to be paying too much attention.

Question for NRA members

So what if "they" know you have a gun? Almost everything about you is stored away in somebody's database.

As long as a state has the "Shall Issue" clause, I think permits are a good way to ensure a person has had some training with firearms.

How safe would you feel on the road if it was legal to drive without a drivers license?

"Honest officer, I took the driving test. Really I did!"

Question for NRA members

I try to avoid the registration paranoia usually, but I feel like a dog's leftovers, so...

I have a number of CCW permits, issued by various states, I have certification from the NRA, Tennessee, and Colorado, as a Firearms Instructor. I am a member of the NRA and half a dozen other firearms organizations, and I feel fine about it, because... If it comes down to the confiscation stage, the last guns they will take are the ones owned by the responsible trainers, that teach the police how to shoot straight..

So, anyone worried about it, go get an instructors license, sign up to teach cops how to shoot, and stop worrying.

Question for NRA members

...I guess I dont really need a CCW...When I carry I carry open.
I figure that "they" already know who I am so why make it any easier for "them" by getting registered as a CCW holder.
NRA life member and certified firearms instructor here as well...

Question for NRA members

In the U.S. there are approximately 300 million people and 600 million REGISTERED guns. If the Gov were to start taxing they could go after 600 million guns, but they know that that's just the tip of the iceberg, think of all the unregistered guns out there. If they start taxing guns, registration will plummet and notices of sales/destruction will go through the roof. We have no worry about the government trying to tax guns themselves. What they WILL do is tax the ammunition. They may never confiscate the guns, but if a box of 12 gauge or .45 acp's costs $250, how many people will really be shooting? THAT'S what you need to be worried about. NOW is the time to invest in shells and reloaders. . . . Also the government knows if the try total disarmament there'll be quite a few dead poplice and service men. . . (if they'd even head out, i'd lay odds most of them would put their feet down at at that point)
