I am on the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) and this thread has had a lot of response so thought it may be good for here. I’m sure a lot of you have extinguishers in your trucks or garage.
Today a recall was announced involving 40 million Fire Extinguishers manufactured by Kidde. The recall involves 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, including models that were previously recalled in March 2009 and February 2015. Be advised that some of the recalled Extinguishers were sold under names other than Kidde (ie Fuller Brush, Honeywell, Montgomery Ward, Sears and other names).

Be advised that the link above has the list of recalled extinguishers. It also lets you submit your request for a replacement extinguisher after you provide your name, address, the model extinguisher and serial number. It verifies that your extinguisher is being recalled and submits your request for a replacement.
If you do not want to submit your request on-line you can contact Kidde via telephone to find out if a fire extinguisher is included in the recall or to get a replacement :
Contact Kidde at (855) 271-0773 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday-Friday (excluding holidays), or between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the weekend to determine whether your extinguishers are affected.
I have two of them. One in my shop and one in the wife's garage. I was unable to contact them online because there is no visible date code on either one. I plan to call them Monday to try and resolve this. Both models are listed in the recall.
Dave, thanks for reminding me to do this. I just went online and filled out the claim form. It took less than 5 minutes. A new extinguisher is on the way. The old one probably needed to be replaced anyway. I think it's been on the garage wall since we moved in 15 years ago. I think every post should have a picture so:
I got one replacement today. I had two recalled models, what I will call a 1 lb and a 3 lb extinguisher. They want you to return the old one in their box with a prepaid shipping label. The problem is the one they sent is what I will call a 2 lb extinguisher. So I guess I will just wait for the second replacement to arrive before I return either of the old ones. The new ones are made in Mexico.

Maybe you know this already, but the powder type extinguishers should be inverted now and then and rapped with a mallet on the bottom and sides. The retardant product settles and clumps over time and typically will not dispense when needed.
