What's everyone's thoughts on doing first oil change at 2000-2500 miles? I did this on my 2015 PSD and then the next one at 5000 miles. My oil change intervals after that were every 5000 miles and fuel filters every 10k. I would send a sample off to black stone every change and all parameters were always normal.
Also I used motor craft oil 15w 40 with motor craft filter however since i live in miami Fl and deal with mostly hot weather and city driving I'm thinking of switching to full synthetic 5w 40 but not sure which brand to go with. The rotella T6 seems to be very popular.
I have the 6.2L gas, but I did my first change at 1500 miles and went with full synthetic oil. I always like to do an early oil change and have become a big fan of full synthetic oil over the years.
You are going to find there are plenty of opinions on this matter. I will just tell you what I use, Chevron Delo 400LE 5W-40 in the CJ-4 formulation which is still available for now, I run it all year long. I think as long as you pick any good oil and change it regular you are fine. I ran Rotella T6 in mine but then switched to the Delo and noticed my regens were alot farther apart using the Delo. Some have said the VPB does the same, I cant comment since I have never used it. Oh and I changed my factory fill at 1,000 miles.

So if 15w-40 came back completely normal in your 2015, why do you think you need syn in your new truck? Has Miami gotten hotter?
If you are going to change your oil every 5k no matter what oil you use, syn is a total waste of money.
Brandon the delo seems beneficial for me if it's extending your regens seeing that I do a lot of city driving but you say still available for now? They talking about changing something in it? Would the new oil be on our approved list? I don't want to have to go through a headache to get it. I like the 1k change out idea.
JS I was thinking about changing to synthetic just cause the wider operating ranges and from what I read synthetic does better in hot and cold temps. I drive to north Fl and Ga here and there so I do get some cold weather here and there. You think I should extend the oil life? This is my second PSD only had the first one for a year and a half. I was always told good oil and fuel and the motor will run forever so I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to changing the oil maybe little to cautious. How long you run your oil before changing?

It is the old CJ-4 formulation, Oreilly's still has it and I've seen it at WalMart. The new CK-4 formulation is not on the approved list as of yet. I stockpiled enough to do me about 4 oil changes. The old is in a grey jug and will say CJ-4, I beleive the new CK-4 is blue. Chevron said they would produce the CJ-4 until late summer. Both Oreilly's said they had about 75-100 gallons they could get but Im sure that number will fall the longer you wait. Im hoping by the time I run out the Ford list has expanded some, if not I will probably go to the VPB if Delo hasnt made the list. Also caught it on sale for $19 a gallon and it's no headache, if its not on the shelf, they can usually have it the next day. Its still on the shelves here in my area at both places.
1000mi 1st change to Motorcraft 5w40
5000mi 2nd change same oil
10000mi 3rd change Amsoil
Now depating to wait for the oil change indicator, or stick to 5k intervals.
You can't go wrong following the factory recommend oil change interval. Anything more frequently than that may not be a waste of money but it it unnecessary. If you feel better changing it early, I'd say go for it.

Ditto.
diblasi - Change your oil when the OLM tells you to. Use the oil recommended in the manual for your weather/driving conditions.
15w-40 is going to be good for just about anywhere in FL or GA year-round.
Or -
Give in to hype. Buy the most expensive oil that you can find and change it every 3 blocks.
I cannot tell you how to spend your money.
PS - Unloaded driving does not constitute "Severe" conditions, even in Florida heat and city driving.
I guess everyone’s definition of severe duty varies however according to the owners manual I would say Miami traffic and frequent low speed operations would qualify me as severe duty and according to the manual 5W-40 would be best. I get the IOLM but what if it stops working like any other system is prone to. Maybe I’m being over cautious guess just looking for the best ideas for my truck to protect my investment.
