Mini-Subwoofer Installed
Quick couple of pics showing how I set up a Kicker Hideaway 11HS8 powered sub in the Ex.
Ran power from from the battery through the firewall, then down along the passenger-side in the door sills, then up and under the carpet to a small hole below the seats. Picture shows the grommet over the hole where the cab is bolted to the frame. Picture is of the DS grommet cap, but I ran it through the passenger side. The battery cable included with the Hideaway was just long enough.
Then I ran aftermarket RCA cables, remote control wire and remote power control wire up the drivers side, under the dash and to the head unit. Grounded to the truck frame under the middle-seat seatbelt receivers. In terms of mounting the sub itself, I drilled two holes in the seat cross-bar that runs under the 60% side, and used two of the mounting brackets that came with the sub to affix it to be crossbar using some small nuts and bolts from the hardware store. I put a cloth under the bar to reduce vibration.
Placed the remote control on the removable under-dash cover for now.
The sub sounds pretty decent for what it is. Tough to hear a huge difference in regular pop/rock (mostly just more depth), but makes electronic and hip-hop come alive. Packs a punch without sacrificing any cargo space. The unit is low enough that I can flatten out the second row no problem.

I’ve got a cheapo double-din box by Planet Audio. It sounds totally fine and clearly is a copy of higher-end technology with cheaper parts, since it has all the connectors you want (RCA out, two video outs, sub power control, sub outs, reverse wire etc....). $120 with a backup camera, on amazon. Same model as the Boss brand. Looks ok:
