Went for a drive this morning and had to use the defrost and warm air as it was 44 and windows were foggy. After lunch I ran to the garden center and turned temp to 60 on auto and all i get is warm air. What should I check first ?
Even if the AC is not running like it should, you should at least hear it trying to turn on. The clutch will click on and then off. If this isn't happening, then you have some type of electrical issue between the controls and the compressor. If you hear it clicking on and off without it staying on for a long time, then it's likely just low on freon. If the compressor is staying on/running but you're not getting any cool air, then you've got some issue that I haven't experienced before. If the clutch is engaging but the compressor isn't turning (burning a belt) then your compressor is locked up.
First thing to check is.....is the compressor cycling? Place the AC on the coldest setting and set (MaxAC) then visually check for the compressor clutch to cycle. If it does nothing you either have an electrical problem or it's extremely low on freon. If it was working recently and all of a sudden it's not working I'd lean toward the low freon issue. Low freon=leak and expect to pay dearly for the fix.
Quick question...if morning outdoor ambient temp was 44.......What was outdoor ambient temp when you went out at lunch? I'm going to assume you have the E.A.T.C dual climate control in your truck? Truck as far as I know will take into account the outdoor temp and the in the truck temp to determine the air temp that comes out of the vents.
PCM/BCM will take over control when ambient air is less the 32F regardless of input.
If you have a scanner see if you have any DTCs...they will not throw a CEL-they are just "logged".
P0532, P0533 and P0534 are the 3 most played on the top 10. Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low and High, and Charge Loss respectively.
P1464 is the "Run Home to Momma" code and notes A/C Demand out of Self Test Range. Action states to clear DTC, repeat self test, and ignore if it does not return and continue diagnostics. Way to Go, Ford!?!
