Can anyone tell me if I use the age old method of retracting my calipers with a C-clamp...or is there a different way of doing this with an 1999 F-250? I here that some Fords have a special tool to do this now?
I think what you are talking about is the rear disc brakes. The front are the same as they have been for years. The only reason the rear is different is the e-brake. If you do the rears, there is a tool that is square with pins that goes on a rachet and turns the calpier piston back into the caliper. So, the C-Clamp method will work. However, just check very well for leaks. Don't put the new pads on the caliper if it is leaking. Then, you will need to rebuild the caliper.
One other thing, with ABS, DO NOT push the old brake fluid back
into the system when you push the pistons back in the calipers.
Open the bleeder to force the old fluid out there.....
Thank you for all advice. I will be replacing front rotors, back rotors, back calipers, e-brake and pads....I figure this will take me a while, as I know this will not go real well!! This truck of mine eats brake systems like a child eats candy. I cannot afford to pay to have all of this done, so I am going to study up a bit, and ask for advice...and then plunge in! You will probably see me back here intermittently...begging for tech help.
