rear mounted fuel tank for 55 f100?

Anyone know of a later model fuel tank that will fit in the rear frame area of a 55 F100? Behind original shock mount cross member. I want to run the filler neck out the side ( gas cap in the fender ) and want to run an internal fuel pump for fuel injection. I may have space issues with the sway bar mounts in the area so will need to know the dimensions of the tank as well. I saw an earlier post about a 95 Chevy van tank with side fill but it looked like it took up every square inch of the space. Any advice will be appreciated.

Here is a pic of my setup it’s a 49, used a Chevy van tank for FI it might be mid 90’s. It looks like the rear springs are longer on your truck. Notice the white lines on the lower rail where I trimmed the rail

I installed a crossmember from a 65 f250 at the rear of the frame 34” wide moved the old crossmember to In front of the fuel tank after boxing the frame

Fuel tank is from a Chevy van FI
Note the filler is at the rear of the tank on the van tank

I used a Spectra Premium Fuel Tank. Part Number: 3327-05487025, (87-96 G30 van) non fuel injected
31 in. x 22 in. x 12-3/8 in., 22 Gallons Tank

My tank goes out the side but I mounted it against the rear upper shock mount brace. If I had to do it again, I’d move it further back so the filler tube is not interfering with the rear spring shackle.

Great information to all who responded. I have some new ideas that I had not considered. I like the filler cap on the fender and am looking for even more clever ideas for fender mounted fillers. Thank you all for your input, I knew this was something that has been dealt with many times and in many ways before me.

I used the Mid-Fifty 22 Gal cross member mount with side fill in the driver side fender with a flip gas cap.

Second the mustang gas tanks from the sixties. New ones are fairly cheap and not hard to install

I used a 23 gal. tank from a 88 Bronco II in my 53. One thing I liked was the filler comes out at an angle upwards and the hose passed over the frame rail without notching. Mounting was done with the BII crossmembers and straps.

Ike, don't mean to hijack your thread but I'd like to know where you found the red polyurethane shackle bushings.

You're frame is beautiful! The contrasting blue looks terrific.

Thanks for the compliment, I want to keep everything underneath bright and clean looking. Of course, only I will know what's under there since it will sit pretty low. As for the bushings, I can't recall where I got them, other than I found them online. I was searching for new bushings for the Volare front end and actually found everything. One of the suppliers that I found also had the rear bushings, which are actually springs from an "82 F100.
