I feel dumb for even asking but has anyone changed the intake manifold without removing the turbo?
I have never tried it but it seems that if you unbolt the EGR cooler off the intake tab in the rear remove the long studs that hold it up against the front of the manifold, you'd be able to snake it out.
Anyone accomplish it this way?
I am going to install my new ported intake from ODAWG and really don't want to tear the top apart AGAIN
I have done it, first time it was very tight getting it out, my truck is an '03 that I put an '05 manifold on when I did the EGR delete, the second time it was easier because I cut the tab off on the passenger side that the EGR bolted to which gave me more clearance, it was tight but doable, I did leave several of the rearmost bolts in the manifold because there was no clearance to remove them. It was actually harder to replace it although not to bad.
I have a 4" downpipe which makes it impossible to remove the last rear bolt on the passenger side of the intake manifold without removing the downpipe v band. After rebuilding my turbo, I'd say anytime is a good time to clean the unison ring and once you've taken the turbo out 3 or 4 times it's no big deal.
