I've read the previous threads until I'm blue in the face and confused.
While in the salvage yard this week end I found a Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with side mounted Saginaw box and push pull steering the same as the f250's.
Will this work on mine without huge issues. I don't off road or need a lot of flex. Not particularly interested in the 79 f25 boxes. Just cheap (65.00) and simple.
Also found a f250 with a good drivers side in bed storage unit. Can get it for 25 complete. Might just grab it.
Thanks in advance
I think people here would need a lot more info before they could make a solid recommendation. There are well documented swaps in the sticky’s at the top of this Forum. Also I have seen other members use PS boxes from Dodge and Chevy here with some degree of modification. Best bet is to clearly plan everything out ahead of time. Start by fully understanding your current set up then decide what you want to end up with. Then take the path of least resistance.
I've seen highboy done with a 2wd box. A high school kid who worked with me did it himself and it was pretty simple. He mounted it ahead of the axle, then just rotate the pitman arm 90 degrees. It was a thrasher mud truck with 36s and held up fine.
The big problem is the Chevy box will mount on the outside of the frame and limit how much you care steer. The cheapest change is to use a 1970 to 79 two wheel box off an F250 or F350. I am change mine over to the 1979 F250 4x4 box and front axle on my 1970 highboy.
