Hello everyone just wanted to see who might be around the Tulsa, OK area? I just picked up a 2001 2wd EX - XLT. V10 158K on the clock with a 3' Rancho lift kit and 33" mud tires. I am in the process of getting some new road tires 265/75/16s or 285s as this will be primarily a tow vehicle for the 27' bumper pull travel trailer that we just purchased. it's dry weight is 6500 lbs and we will not be driving with water on board.
I will also be changing the spark plugs, coils, and as mentioned the tires to E range HWY tires. I will probably need to replace the cat and muffler as well. this will not be a daily driver but i still would like to make sure it is good on long trips.
We do not encounter many steep grades and even though HWY speeds are sometimes 75 mph I am looking to cruise at that 60 to 65 mph range. I hope that i have selected the right rig for my application and would really appreciate any input from those local and from far away.
Thanks in advance
Travis

Travis, I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase. The Excursion with a 7.3L PSD will make easy work of your trailer. I actually have some neighbors that just purchased a 2004 F250 sclb dually with the 6.0L. They tow a 5th wheel with it and are impressed with the performance. It's good to know that people realize the superiority of Ford trucks.
We have an 01, 7.3, 4x4 and tow our 94 prowler 27' TT which is around 7000lbs. I don't use any type of weight distribution hitch. Just directly off the stock hitch and it pulls great.
Olds64 - Thank you for checking in with me. It is great to have rigs close that I can reach out to for advise.
Wildstang- I edited by OP as I have the V10 but I am excited that it is such a work horse. I had the weight distribution hitch and anti sway bar already on my old camper set up so i have it on the new camper already!
I don’t plan on going bigger just 10 ply with more of an all season tread or mild all terrain. 265/75/16 is what I am looking at in an E load.
The lift threw me as well but it looks nice, I still have to take some time and really investigate what has and has not been done to the rig. I do know that the nobie tires need to go ASAP!
