Edge insight

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the edge insight? I do a lot of city driving and was thinking about purchasing the insight to monitor DPF status and the status of my regens. Also would be nice to see turbo temp and EGT just in case I can't finish a regen if I'm doing a city trip. I DO NOT WANT ANY TUNES ON THE TRUCK. I just want to monitor temps. I didn't do it to my 15 PSD and never had any issues. Worth it or not? Or if anyone is using any other device let me know how that works. I'm not the most computer incilined guy out there so the easier the better.

I have the Edge CTS 2 and I am pleased with it. Large screen, Lots of parameters to choose from to monitor, customizable. I mostly have the exhaust temps and DPF status. It has alot more features but I don't use them such as 1/4 mile times, fuel mileage coach, etc.

Great thanks Brandon. To get the exhaust temps did you need to place any additional sensors or are you able to grab a reading just by plugging in the insight to you connection? Also if can post a pic of your set up? That would be great! Ty sir.

No additional sensors required. Once you plug the monitor into your obdii port, it will ask if its Ford, Chevy, etc., when you get to the monitor screen, you can replace any gauge. When you go to replace the gauge a list of items appears for you to choose. I beleive there are 4 or 5 exhaust sensors to choose from. I have 3 in mine, also have dpf soot level and dpf % as well as trans temp, oil temp and boost. There is another for dpf status but it did not work on mine, I just watch for a regen when it hits 100%, you will see exhaust temps climb and you know its in regen, usually takes about 15 minutes of driving to complete. I will snap a pic here in a few.

Also add that there are multiple screen styles to choose from, colors, backgrounds, you won’t be disappointed.

I have an older Insight. They stopped providing updates. I suspect in fact they actually blocked it from working with newer vehicles so that they would not have to support it any longer. Just my suspicion.

When I bought my 2017 SD, I plugged the Insight in. It works then powers off after a few seconds. Behaviour is clearly programmed. Spoke to support. They wanted to sell me a new one. Hah!

So, I decided to just get a phone app (e.g., Forscan, Torque Pro, etc.) and a bluetooth ODB2 connector off Amazon. That will save you substantially and give you more flexibility to track what you want, and how you want to display it.

If you want a dedicated device, you can even buy a cheapo small Android tablet (or an old used Android Phone) for less than a Insight and get a bigger screen.

Seriously, don't buy an Insight.

I had the exact opposite experience. Bought one for my first diesel, sold it and was in a gasser for a few years then went back to diesel. Started using the CTS again and after a few months it got a glitch that an update would not fix. Bear in mind this monitor is at least 5 years old and out of warranty, contacted Edge and the guy said just let me send you a new one and see if that fixes it. They sent me a new monitor and I sent the old one back...no charge. Everyone has their own experience/opinion.

I am also running the CTS 2 and had it ever since my 2010 SD lost a HP fuel pump while I was towing in the mountains. The idiot gauges in my '10 showed everything was "normal". Bought the Edge and never looked back. When I bought my '17, I updated the unit and installed it and have been monitoring everything at a glance. I use the 12 space grid now to see all the pids at once. Great to know when your in regen and can run it all the way through. It helps me montior while towing as I now know exactly what is going on and can possibly shut down if I feel something is going south. The '17s monitor so much more than my '10 did in stock configuration, but you have to flip through different screens. The Edge is always on and a glance away.

I only wish Edge would come out with a better mounting solution. The mount I had in the '10 looked factory. I really hate this thing being suction cupped to my windshield.

Outstanding thank you all very much for you sharing the knowledge with me. Guess I’ll have to weigh me options here. But from what I see the monitoring is a must. Thanks again!
