Exhaust manifold 01 5.4l superduty
What do you guys think?
Been a mechanic my whole life..havent seen this yet.. maybe some of you have? Its what i saw when i noticed the bolt loose on passenger side manifold..low and behold a few tugs and the stud came out..followed with a helicoil... Upon removal i noticed the stud was rusted all the way to the end.
so since this was already done with a helicoil and it looks like it just rusted/stripped out. Whats my option to fix this if possible? Thanks

Oversized insert dont know the size thou. Also if you put a insert make sure you use some of the high temp thread locker like the Green 620 one, and use some coper anti seize on the new stud/bolt That your using for future ease of removal. Judjing by that pic lloks like you may need a new exhaust manifold as well, unless you have machined flat on the mating surface.

Yeah i just ordered the timesert insert kit online i bought the oversized one designed for these issues. Noticed the stud size stock is m 10x1.25x53mm so I ordered the m10x1.25x20mm and 14mm to get a option of how deep in the head it will go. I bought a new dorman manifold felpro gaskets and new studs and nuts. Still in vehicle so i plan on cutting everything else out and making this a quick job..once i get the Big-Sert kit. Was able to get manifold, gasket, studs and nuts for $120. The BIG Sert kit (p#5012) was 89.40 plus i bought the tap guide(11.00) and 1 (p#50123) 20mm insert..so im in it for about $230 so far. I have good faith in this kit...

Ive looked all over the web and havent cound but only 1 thing showing someone using the time serts for the exhaust manifold issue..most the time people use it for the spark plug grenade. So ill take pictures through the process to hopefully help another who might run into this issue themselves..now mind you i am doing this on a f350 so clearance issues arent that important so im doing this all throu the wheel well..no tire removed nada
