Bed swap

Bed swap
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the beds from 67 to 72 2ws/4wd besides markers and such? I need a new bed because the inside of mine is completely shot from having a piece of 3/4 inch plywood laid in it with a 4'x8' sheet steel laid on top and screwed down and then a big center hitch plate put on top and bolted to the frame. The truck was used on a ranch in the Colorado Rockies. Have a photo taken of the truck in the early seventies as it went through a little town each Saturday hauling coal to the ranch. Shows the truck with sideboards on the bed and coal clear up to the top of the cab, with 2 spare tires thrown up on top of the coal! Now looking at options for a bed floor. Looking at a sheet of 10 gauge sheet metal put it and new fenders welded in and everything will be painted first with POR-15 inside and out and then coated with a spray in bed liner. Cost $1800 at a body shot. At the same time I want to install a 25 to 30 gal fuel tank in the back under the bed, eliminating the in cab tank. I have 2 saddle tanks, one on each side now that I am going to replumb at the same time installing a electric fuel pump to take the fuel from the saddle tanks and pump it into the main tank and to the carb, eliminating the need for tank switches. A lighted toggle switch will be installed on the dash where the ash tray is currently, at least that is the plan now. I have found several good solid beds that I can get, but the years maybe different and they are all 2wd trucks. Thanks for your information.

All the trim pieces came with the truck in the bed including the one for the tailgate. But due to the bed issues I opted to leave them off until I get resolution to the bed issues. I also know a guy that has new trim for the truck still in original packaging. Just getting everything done first.

There's a mistake in the 1969 pic: 1969 from serial number F70,001 and 1970/72 have side marker LAMPS.
FOUR different types of upper body side mouldings:
1 1/4" wide: 1967, 1968 before serial number C56,001.
1 1/2" wide: 1968 from serial number C56,001, 1969, 1970/72 Sport Custom.
3 5/8" wide with painted black inserts: 1970/72 Ranger.
3 5/8" wide with walnut wood grained inserts: 1970/72 Ranger XLT

Sure that is an option as well. I am just looking at the labor part as well as rates are so high anymore. I can't do the work as I have a respiratory problem ans cannot be around fumes or any kind of smoke . Also considering diamond plate. Getting a sheet of plywood until I get this issue solved. Got some fall cleanup and landscaping to do before snow fly's!

And a front extra one too Jeff.
As nice as that truck looks, I'd try to find a good craftsman to replace what needs replaced inside. $1800 seems like a lot. If the replacement bed can be painted and installed cheaper, then that is the way I would go.

[QUOTE=willowbilly3;17553831]The front is not an extra. They were stock on f250 camper specials.

I think there is a lot of confusion about "camper specials"! I know from the photo I got with the truck hauling coal back in the day, those Dietz lights are clearly on the fenders. The left light is shot and I cannot get it to work due to rust. I found the part numbers and found 2 replacements in Illinois at at outfit that sold heavy equipment and truck parts. I talked to the parts man who has been there for 50 years! As he was writing up my order information , he mentioned how they used to use this light on the front fenders of Ford pickup trucks in the late 60's and early 70's! I then told him I needed it for a 69 Ford F250 4x4. I had not given him that information previously! He said it was the original part number that was used back then on what he called "camper specials"! He said it was the only 2 they had and that they were completely cover with dust having been there for so many years. They clearly are new and it pristine condition. I have looked for definitive information on the internet about "camper specials" but have not been able to get information from what I call a reliable source. I am looking for an article that will cite the sources of where the information came from. I keep looking. I will find it in time.
