Went to the dyno today and i am very disappointed.First i have some sort of glitch that is giving me some flat spots in all 3 pulls.
The dyno operater said he could feel it, like it was losing power at certain rpms which the graphs showed. There are many peaks and valleys in the hp graph as well as trq.Every time it would start climbing it would drop dramatically then start climbing again. This gave me some very low numbers which i was embarassed by.I am thinking tps has some flat spots or dead spots which when the throttle is moving thru its range it gives some sorta of false signal or something.I have been feeling this and thought it was my imagination. Also during the pulls every couple of seconds it was emitting small puffs of black soot out.The operater said it is probaly what is causing the valleys in the graph. It sounded awesome, no missfiring or anything, just some dead spots moving up thru the rpm range. When i get home from offshore i am going to test the tps voltage and the mass air volts. And i also have the original fuel filter still on the truck, probaly not helping. We removed the K+N filter and made 3 hp.
237 hp@4100 323 trq@3200 lots of valleys! suggestions?
Sounds to me like you've got some spark knock issues....
v-10's have a knock sensor in the valley of the engine and when it senses a spark knock it will retard the timming. So you won't hear the knock but you'll get a loss in power. Try using a higher octane gas and try the dyno again. (If you have the money) or if you said you could feel it, put the better gas in and see if you can feel it.
It could be a few other things but thats probably the most likely
Chevron,Texaco or Shell premium all the time.I am leaning towards tps [throttle positioning sensor].I can kinda feel a dead spot sometimes where nothing happens then it it hits hard and takes off.The most embarassing thing was there was a guy w/a 1500 chev 5.3 w/a chip and cat-back who made 300rwhp.I definitly have something wrong.
do you have the old v-10 or the new v-10? if you have the old one it doesn't even make 300 hp at the flywheel. if you got the newer one it only makes 310 hp at the flywheel and rwhp is going to be around 260-270 due to that massive piece of junk 4r100. but yes you do have a problem.
a Tps with a dead spot will most likely send a check engine light. and if you where doing a dyno pull you where at WOT right? since when do people do a dyno run at part throtle and work there way up?
The operator did not hit wot right away,i guess he let it get into 3rd gear then nailed it.He had the rpm range on the dyno set @ 2500-5000 rpms.I had to weigh my truck first to enter it into the dyno. 5620#s.I have the newer one 2000 310 hp.Anyway i have 2 weeks to think about it while i am offshore.
just for reference, the valleys in the graph are approx 15 hp.I got home and returned the pcm settings back to stock w/tuner and it was noticably slower, returned it to the settings i was running before.I AM BUMMED!
can you post a pic of the graph? Also have them print a graph with the air/fuel mix along the bottom. The valleys you see in this run from 1500 to 2000 rpm are caused by a lean mix.
If you can adjust mix by RPM you might be able to correct your problems???
What's up. Long time since I've heard from you. We need to get together and drain some beer cans again. Take a look at the Banks site and compare your number to theirs, :
I have also felt a flat spot in my throttle, and a loss of power. I tried a TPS and it made no difference at all. Also replaced the MAF and it made no difference also. Read where some one else had the same problem and it would up being the fuel pump. Have not tried that yet.
If you want to try the TPS I removed from my truck send me a PM.
From 2500 to 2800 the trq curve is going almost straight up to 312 ft/lbs,then drops about 7 ft/lbs in 300 rpms [3100] then climbs sharply to 323 ft/lbs @3300 rpms drops back down to about 308 ft/lbs @3500 rpms, climbs back up to about 316 @approx 3700 rpms then tapers off like it should. The hp graph follows along the trq graph but when it gets to around 4100 it peaks at 237 then loses about 10 hp then climbs again to about 237 then up and down a couple of times in 10 hp swings. The dips in trq + hp take place in about 2-3 seconds.I have access to a digital camera here on the rig where i can put it on a floppy and attache it some kind of way if someone can tell me how.Plus we have a scanner, but i dont know what to do so yall can see it, if some one could help me maybe i could post it.
V10KLZZ71S take the pic and put it on your computer. Then make a gallery and put it there. Then copy that link and where it says IMG above the respond to topic box click it and past the address in the box that comes up. It will show up!
What rig are you on. I right now am on a rig in south TX, the other Direction Driller with me has the directway dish. Pertty sweet.
I hope none of you guys are on (or know anyone) that rig that went sideways into the ocean on Thursday. I am visiting New Orleans and that was on the local news a lot. Daryl I'll have to give you a heads up next time so we can maybe meet and swap stories.
No dyno work for me but I am timing my 0-60 runs w/ an accelerometer so I can compare them before/after to the new throttle body, which I hope to get in a couple months.
ENSCO 83 in ship shoal 193 Daimon,i just left the victoria area.Ill try what you said, i tried to scan it to a 3.5 but it wasnt working to good.Looked at it thru the dig camera but it did not look like it would come out to good.
ps hey jax give a email when you come back thru town, i will be in on the 25th.
