After an EGR delete, coolant flush, & new oil cooler, I hooked up to the 5th wheel for the 1st time last weekend. Started off towing into a 20-25 mph headwind & was able to run 65-70 with about 2/3 throttle. EGT's ran between 1000 & 1100; EOT stayed between 225 & 230 with ECT about 8-10 degrees cooler. EOT spiked to 232 a couple times under hard throttle, but seemed to recover within 5-10 minutes. Once the wind died down a little, it did much better - ran a steady 70 & never shifted out of OD to maintain that. Fairly impressed for a 13 year old truck with stock tuning. Ran better than my tuned 7.3 & about on par with my EFI Live-tuned LML Duramax. One thing I did notice is that the 6.0 seems to really like boost. Just cruising at about 2200 rpm's, I was pushing between 15 & 20 psi. My Dmax never got above 8 till it downshifted & rpm's came up to 2400. And definately noticed the stability of the dually towing in the wind. My last 2 pickups were 1 ton srw's & would get pushed around quite a bit on windy days. This one felt rock solid & I never noticed any trailer sway. Just looking for some comparisons with other 6.0's; do all my numbers look acceptable?
Sounds pretty good! I too just came from an 02 7.3 SRW and just purchased a 6.0 dually. First trip pulling is next weekend, can't wait to see how she does as far a stability. I too got pushed around a bit this summer with side winds in the Columbia river gorge. Looking forward to a more stable platform and curious to see how it tows. Engine and tranny completely different animal than my old tuned 7.3.
