I'm gonna try my best to stay out of this forum, well, refrain from posting, because I am sure I would get myself in trouble. But this has been on my mind for quite a while.
Everyone says "We freed the Iraqis from an oppresive leader" First off, I agree 100% on that point, but not much else about the current situation.
Well if we are all about ending oppresion, why not start with cuba? You all know how bad it is over there, and getting rid of castro would make theirs and our lives easier. Think about it. If castro is gone, and they like the new guy, they would have much less reason to try to get over here, and we could spend less money on border patrols in florida, and send that money somewhere it could do alot more good. Any flaws in my philosophy? I'm sure there are some.
You are absolutely right, Also, Cuba would be an awsome vacation destination. I would love to own some land there. Build a resort and be a rich republican everyone either hates or envys.
On a lighter note. I think there is a lot of caution toward military action in Cuba due to the fact it is a reminder of the cold war. Communism still scares us. Who knows what they have hidden over there.
Well, I don't think we'll attack Cuba for now because as far as we know they are not a huge threat and don't harbor terrorists (that we know of) Not to mention, Fidel is gettin' old so we figure - let them fight it out.

Not would be, IT IS. For everyone but Americans that is.
My brother is there right now on his honeymoon. It's simply the best value and the most beautiful tropical spot available right now, and since no Americans go there, it's not crowded.
I know several people who've gone, and all have had nothing but good things to say about the country and its people. I agree that Castro is holding them back by keeping the country largely impoverished, but the brutal oppression they once lived with is no longer a factor.
I once had a Cuban cigar on the Iraq/Quwait border in 1991, but don't tell my boss (George W). I think its still contraban. That is my only experience with Cuba.
I have met many Cubans while traveling. They cannot wait to go home, when its safe.
oK lets see, I live in South FLA. and talk with the cuban people all the time.
To tell the truth I think most people that live there are so used to the way its been they dont know what they are missing.
Cuba will be a HOT spot bigger than Vegas when it opens up!!
And it will open. But only after a coup. The US has no interest in cuba.
What does cuba have that we need??? nothing...
So its biz as usual.
And I dont think the people will revolt cause way back when, they had this thing called gun control.Come down to town hall and regiester your firearm. And then they went and took them.
So no weapons no fight...Now thats gun control!!!
Well I could go on and on >>>>>>>>

I swear that the whole in the ozone layer is over Cuba, one their cars are all oil burning exaust fume releasing vehicles. They also just throw their trash out the window and call it freedom. That at least is in the big cities. Im sure some parts are pretty though.
Cuba can't really be considered a high priority threat right now. Not when we got middle eastern countries pumping out terrorists by the dozen, and we have N. Korea acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.
Japan and China won't do anything about N. Korea until a nuke lands in their capitol city, so who does that leave to take preventative action? The U.S. and Britain.
I didnt say they were a threat, I said they were oppressed. Thats why we are in iraq, right? We could have solved alot more problems alot easier in cuba. But thats why I am not in charge...

Been the a few times and IT IS a great vacation spot. Castro is holding them back to a good extent, but many are content with that...while many others are not..
Cuba is turning into a great vacation destination site with Canadian and other non-US capital investment, much to the chagrin of US resort developers. Interestingly enough, it also remains the best ecological example of all islands in the Carribean from closely monitored and enforced conservation efforts while most others have been trashed for development.
Cuba's current economic problems developed with the collapse of the USSR, who was the primary buyer of Cuba's major product, sugar. Even if trade relations were re-established between the US and Cuba they couldn't sell their sugar here. Our sugar production costs are kept artificially low by massive federal subsidies from politicians representing sugar producing states.
It has probably the largest single collection of classic cars up to '59s used on a daily basis, mostly held together with bondo, wire and house paint.
Many politicians prefer to leave Cuba alone as an example of communism to point at when extolling the virtues of whatever they're spinning.
