I have a 76 F150 Short Box that has L6 300 4x4 4 speed manual. I want to swap it out to a 408w Stroker that has 450hp and 500tq. I know that the bell housing and tranny will fit. I am wondering what driveline components do I need to upgrade to have it handle that much hp and tq?
The weak link I'd guess would be the transfer case, depending on what it is. The rear will be a 9", plenty strong for it as long as it's got 31 spline axles.
Baddad - Thanks I will take a look at the transfer case and check the spline.
Richter - It is not fantasy I am going to order a crate ford 408w motor but I will not just wait til something breaks.
If that is the case then the first thing would be a brake upgrade , you are more than doubling your horse power and with larger tires your brakes will be boarder line at best and dangerous to others at worst . most cars on the road today have half your stopping distance.
I have been on many forums for many years and 95% of the people talking about building or buying stokers, turbos, supercharging and the like are just blowing smoke and wasting other peoples time .
that said good luck and post some pictures of your build , But I am not going to hold my breath. No offense .
Yeah, well I will but it won't be for a year. I have to save little bit more money but it will be done. I understand that there are a lot of dreamers and not a lot of doers! I just need to get everything upgraded before I put more power into the truck so I don't die haha!
You're not going to die from not upgrading parts. You'll die from driving stupid. As for breaking parts, that's only going to happen from the sudden application of torque with too much traction at the ground.
