You need to listen to Pirate on what he is seeing under the hood. I agree that the hood on that side right above the bottle looks to have been cleaned. That and the missing sticker is a giant red flag. Not trying to rain on your parade, but you need to look hard at this thing and get it looked at by a good diesel mechanic.
Also, don't just drive it around the block. You have to really, really test drive that 6.uh-oh.

Thanks, and I did. The whole engine compartment has been cleaned. I'm taking it to my diesel mechanic on Monday, that's the soonest he can see me. We took it for a whopper of a test drive )
Listen to the others and pay close attention to your degas bottle. If at all possible you need to do a coolant pressure test while driving. You should also hook up an OBD II type scan system and look at all of the main conditions such as ECT/EOT deltas, FICM, battery voltage, HPOP, IPR etc.
It was a STEEP learning curve for me as I had never owned a 6.0 before.
I still love my Ex-It is an Eddie Bauer model like yours but with the blue and gold colors.
If you have any questions I can PM you my cell number if need be.
No need to panic, get a scangauge2 or bluetooth adapter and a smartphone app.
Monitor you coolant and oil temps, verify your ficm voltages, battery voltages, high pressure pressures/voltages ipr/icp, etc.
decide what, if anything, is of concern and make a list, prioritize and consider upgraded parts vs just replacing with oem quality.
The trans is awesome, the power is awesome, the fun factor is also terrific.

I caught the 6.0 bug and have no regrets! That is a beautiful rig!
Beautiful truck, congrats on finding a clean one! Don't worry too much about the potential coolant issues, those can all be resolved and would need to be eventually anyway. The clean body/clean interior is very worth it!
Hopefully the '05 front end grows on you enough to keep it, it's still one of my favorites.
Thanks, me too! The most difficult part so far is deciding on a final plan. I'll get an idea in my head about what I want to do, and then the next day I'll see a new paint colour, or vehicle part, and change it up.
