4.0 sohc to 4.0 ohv

This might sound like a stupid swap and some might think I'm crazy for thinking of such a thing.

I have a 2004 ranger with a bad motor 4.0 sohc
I have an older 1999 ranger with a good 4.0 ohv.
The question here is can I swap the 4.0 from the 99 and put it in my 04 ranger. Also the 2004 currently has an automatic and the 99 has the manual transmission.
(Would perfer the manual transmission)

Thanks.

Anything is possible but this is not a simple swap because other than displacement these two motors share nothing in common.

Both engines have the same engine block. I'd say that is something they have in common.

Electronics wise they might as well be steam vs. nuclear reactor.

Serving suggestion to the OP. Find another SOHC. The basic long block will swap in, just add your intake and electronics. Any one will do, even Mustangs.

IMO that's easier than the wiring harness marriage, which may be an unhappy one.

Ironically, most nuclear reactors ARE steam engines.

Thanks for the advice and all responses!
Alright I found another 4.0 sohc.
Just out of curiosity what would it take to replace the automatic transmission with a manual? The truck is 4x4.

Thanks!

Trans, flywheel, clutch, pedals, and a stick model computer.

Possibly cross member and driveshaft as well.

Go through the guides and tensioners on your "new" 4.0.
