If you want to test the tach, pull it out, hook 12v to B, negative to G, usually when you do this the needle will jump a little bit. Then if you hook a short wire to C, and then take the other end with bare copper strands and quickly stroke this wire across the G terminal, the needle will start jumping and reading a little bit.
