F100 w/ 352 - Four Barrel Q's

I've got a '66 F100 with the 352 in it. I found a great deal on a 4 barrel intake manifold and carb at a swap meet this weekend. Intake is Ford P/N C5AE-9425-C. Carb is a Holley 3310-2 (750 CFM).

I plan on dropping in some headers and dual exhaust next spring. Can I use this intake manifold and carb? Carb needs a rebuild, but I'm afraid it's a bit too big for this engine, or is it usable?

No part numbers marked on parts after 1956, just casting or ID engineering numbers, when applicable.

This 4V manifold is from a 1965: Galaxie/LTD 352/390 & Thunderbird/Mercury 390.

The Holley carb isn't original, would have had an Auto-Lite 4300 series 4V

750 is pretty big for a mild or stock 352. You'll have problems getting the idle mix right, and the vacuum advance might not work perfectly either. That being said, I put a 750 I found on a 4-2bbl adapter on a 360, and it ran just fine.

If you have the $'s to get a new carb, a 600 would be a better solution.

I agree. Even with headers, you still need to be able to move air. What heads are on it? Maybe you got lucky and someone dropped a set of C4AE-G's on it.
Large pipe at the top and large pipe at the bottom will move very little air if the heads don't allow flow.
I also think a carb around 600 cfm would work the best unless you spend a little $$$$ on other stuff. Also,as was mentioned, much easier to adjust for smoothness through the rpm range.
Check the casting #'s that are stamped on 'each' head. The #'s are stamped on top of the heads, just between the two center spark plugs. Check both heads since someone might have replaced one side after all these years.

I'll have to check out the heads, I imagine they are the stock ones, but you never know 'till you look.

You're just trying to improve performance, correct?

The heads are not that important. The intake and exhaust alone will make a huge difference. The carb is OS for what you want to do but can be calibrated back enough (IMO) to use. A 600 will be more responsive but the carb will work. The engine will not be able to use all of the CFM, but if on a budget...

Not really on a budget. I just got the carb and intake for $50. Didn't seem too bad of a deal. I can resell the carb for a few bucks and grab a better sized one, new or another swap meet find.

The four barrel it keep my 10 year old happy for when he gets to drive the truck in a few years...

The 4300 Series was released for the 67 model run wasn't it?

That's what I was thinking and would go for a 1.12 4100

My 68 Cougar runs one instead of the 4300 as it is so much easier to deal with.

The 4300 Series was designed by ROCHESTER for FORD and the design(s) were to supposedly allow FORD to more easily comply with upcoming emission standards.

I found that the best use (especially if you have a kid in track and field) is to use them practicing shot-put or discus throw...

I actually run the stock 4300 in my 410 67 Park Lane. However, it was rebuilt by Jon at Pony Carb before he passed away and then we talked on the phone to set it up. It does run flawlessly.

You're correct and too bad PONY CARB isn't still with us.
