I am thinking about selling my 79 F150 standard cab 4-speed 4x4 with a 300 in it.
I have another post in here about a stumbling issue. Ive replaced a lot of fuel and ignition parts with no change. I also have a overheating problem. the colder it gets the more it wants to puke coolant. I can drive it in 90 degree weather with no problems but once it gets down below 20 then it wants to overheat and lose coolant fast. Compression is a bit low, I have no mix of coolant and oil, Leakdown shows its going past the rings. Im not to enthused about pulling the bottom end apart to do a re ring.
Pull the engine, it needs all new oil gaskets, may as well put in a clutch while im there. head gasket and have the head and valves checked. then sell it in good (hopefully) running condition with body work needed.
Im thinking that most would want to swap the 300 for V8, so that would tell me to not bother with any of that , sell it in "as is" running condition but get the body looking better first. The cab has corner rust, dents. Dents on the fenders and hood and one door, the other door is a different color. The shortbed , well I am thinking about replacing with a flat bed, its that bad.
Or dont do anything at all to it, list it for $800 or best offer.
Let me hear your thoughts please.
Thanks.
I really don't think you will get a return on any of those things. If its running, it is worth more than if it is not. How well it runs is not likely to increase its value. The body is a better investment for your return, however these trucks really don't pull a high dollar. Making sure the 4x4 works is a better bet.
I would say give the truck some elbow grease, clean it, tighten bolts, fix door gaps, the stuff that make it present better with next to no investment, put up an advert and be patient.
