New to Excursion

Hi everyone. I am in the market to replace my 2010 Pathfinder (box frame, not the new one) with something that has more interior cargo space when using all 3 rows and still has decent off road capability.

I’ve looked at many vehicles older and new. I just can’t bring myself to spend $70k on a new SUV that likely has less cargo capacity and less ground clearance than my Pathy. So in the past few months I’ve convinced myself that I need an Excursion.

I am assuming I’ll need a slight lift/wheels/tires to get to my goal of at least 10” ground clearance. I also will not be the only one driving this vehicle, so the other demands I’ve recieved from upper management are: power/heated/memory seats, good sound system that hooks to the phone, nav, and backup camera.

The sound system/phone/nav/backup camera I think I can solve at once with a new LCD based head unit (like Alpine). The seats should not be an issue as long as I stick to the Limited or Eddie Bauer.

HOWEVER, I have come across a 2002 XLT with 35000 miles on it (not a typo). It has the V-10, looks and smells new-ish. The ask is high at $24k but that will be negotiated. I am feeling like this is a opportunity that I probably won’t see again, so I want to jump on it.

Couple of questions: how much should an X like this go for? I expect there to be a premium because of the low mileage. But still seems high to me.

Also so what are my choices for seat upgrade. I have read what I can in the forums and my understanding is that on the XLT, the wiring is just not there for the power/heated seats. So to install that’s a lot of electric work on top of the seat cost. What should I look to pay for limited/Eddie Bauer replacement seats. How about later model F-250 seats? Lastly I found these: https://www.oemcarandtruckseats.com/...er-duty?page=1 but I was hoping to spend less that $3600 for seats!

Thanks in advance for opinions/feedback/help.

Adding seat heaters to your current seats is pretty simple,
the OEM seats use a 30 amp fuse for the heaters and a seperate 30 amp circuit for the motors.

Aftermarket heaters only use about 6 amps power draw. And come with complete wiring harness and switch.

Just my .02 but 24k for a v10 XLT just is not my cup of tea, . I'd buy a nice 150k mile limited for $8-9k But to each their own.

Hello. Did you end picking up that low mileage ex? I'm in the same boat. I have my sights on a low-mileage 6.8 but it is overpriced like yours. I was wondering what your experience was...

I think 05 is the only year that had memory seats. Maybe 04. Just some info. I know the 02 should not have them.

I picked up my 2000 XLT on July 4th from a dealer and paid $7500 out the door. Very, very clean with only 75k. It was priced low because of a big lift and big tires. If it were stock height, it would have sold for at least $2k higher.

I bought a Bluetooth 12v adapter because I think the factory CD player still sounds good and I didn't want to lose the rear seat controls. The unit I bought (Amazon, $18) was sooo good, I bought another for my camp trailer. Get comments on it all the time when commuting or camping with friends. I have power seats, but no memory or heat. Was going to add some cheap heaters like previously shown when I have time. Quoted $1800 from a shop to remove the lift, but I bought all the replacement parts and a few tools for under $800. A weekend of my time is easily worth $1000 and money well saved! Point is......you can mod the car to your liking much cheaper and easier than finding a low-mileage unit with every doodad on your wish list.

20k for a v10 seems way over priced i managed to get my 01 v10 with 144km for 2.7k sure it needed minor work like rockers but when all was done i still was below 3.5k

And my '05 doesn't have adjustable pedals. But it's a low option XLT ex-gov rig.

Unless you have cash (or the lot does a "buy-here-pay-here (and get bent-over here)" you won't be able to finance much of that price with a bank.

You should be able to find a nice gas rig for $6-9k. Then you could spend $5k on anything you wanted to make it really nice and be way ahead.. Just my 0.02

^^^ THIS ^^^

I also just took a drive into town to see my alignment shop. I see that one of our local guys here with a really clean example has his up for sale. It's got some added rooftop storage on it but I know from seeing t that this one was one I wanted to buy and could never figure out where he lived.

As for me I had the seller of mine (v10 E.B. 4x4) drive it down to me due to time constraints and they say it's absolutely the cleanest Ex they'd seen at our local shop. Let me know if you want and I'll get some pics of this one locally. I would have bought it had it come up for sale a few months ago when I was looking. It's funny how you never see any until after you buy yours! ...well not so funny...

I'd hate to miss out so I went and took some pics. This one locally is a 2004 Eddie Bauer 4x4 6.o_Oh Dizzle. Calling him shortly to see what's been done to it. Interior is far nicer than mine and original body is rust free. Frame rails may even be cleaner than mine.
