Wiring system
I have a piece of equipment with what I believe is a Ford 361 engine in it. Not sure on the Year but possibly a late 60's model. I haven't found all the tags yet.
My question in on wiring the electrical system. I have installed a new alternator, starter, and solenoid. Can you look at my drawing and tell me what I've done right or wrong or what needs to be corrected?
Appreciate any help I can get.
P.S. You have the "bat" terminal labeled on the ign switch, but you don't show a wire from there to the battery. That line usually comes from the large terminal on the solenoid that goes to the battery, but you can put it directly on the battery also. Wherever you put it, I would go buy one of those 30 amp circuit breakers and put that as close as you can to the power source for protection in case a wire gets grounded. Don't want to set it on fire you know. That will protect the wire going to the ign switch and everything after the ign switch. You will still have the alternator output wire which can get into trouble, so put some wire loom on it to protect it good.
If any of those small wires get shorted and they are connected directly to the battery with no fuse or circuit breaker, they will turn red before they melt in two and it's very easy to catch something on fire, especially with the old oil and dirt everywhere.
