I just ordered a high output alternator and cable kit from DC ( by the way 50 bucks off this weekend if ordered as a pair ) maybe someone who has installed one can lend some insight?
1. does the present alternator power wire run straight to the battery or does it feed any thing else on route?
2 can you run the additional power wire with the present one? will the current split between the two? or is it better to just leave the old one disconected and just run the new one?
3. did you encounter any difficulties installing it?
This diagram should answer your first question. The connection labelled C102c on the generator is the heavy red wire with the ring terminal. The connection labelled C102a is the battery sense wire that the generator uses to determine battery voltage for the regulator.
As you can see, that heavy red wire goes back to the battery, but also goes through some fusible links and two wires peel off to the Glow Plug Control Module.
As to your other question, I don't see why you couldn't run your secondary wire in parallel, from the terminal post on the alternator to the terminal on the battery. You should probably put a heavy fuse or fusible link in-line with it. However, I'm just a shade-tree mechanic.
so Blade35 - i did get the 190 alternator - did you just run the second wire along with the first? any instalation problems?
Dchamberlain - thanks for the wiring diagram - answered my question there.

no I ran the new wire to the passenger battery +post
no install problems Great Direct Bolt On Alternator and plugs right into the wire harness
hang on I will go take a picture of it and post it up
If you want to get technical, an alternator is still a generator, as it generates electricity. And while an alternator does make alternating current, it's converted into direct current before it leaves the unit.
It's just not normal automotive nomenclature to refer them that way.
I thought the wire would look like Codys but it didnt
Did you just pick that up from the auto part store Cody or was it a DC Power thing
FWIW the wire upgrade in my pics has a fuseable link in it
and its what DC Power gave me for free good guys there I helped them with a fatal error on there web site so he threw it in
Im shure its got to be better for the batterys with the extra wire instaed of pulling all the juice threw the driver battery over to the passenger battery

The stock battery charge wire goes to the passenger side battery. But it doesn't matter, since the juice doesn't go through the battery, just through the positive terminal and across the battery cable to the drivers side.
Okay a question that I'm sure has been asked! I just installed the dc 185 and will be upgrading the cable with a parallel cable my ? is would 4g wire be sufficient and what size fuse would be needed ?
