I inherited this 52 F1 from my brother. Frame and steering column is from '71 Ranger, engine is 5.0 L from 88 Mercury Grand Marquis. He never got around to tidying up the engine bay, so I'm looking for advice for brackets, etc. The Mercury has the ac compressor on passenger side and alternator on driver side, so the bracket and pulley kits I'm seeing for Mustang 302's may not work. The ac is Vintage Air, and the ac mount has a manual belt tensioner on it. Existing radiator is not correct, he just put in what he had at the time. I have bought the correct replacement. Also need to find attractive way to cover the firewall steering column cutout.
Don't have a lot of experience with Fords, but I've already learned a lot on this site just by reading posts. Thanks everyone!
thats a nice truck to start with, I run the same front brackets on my 351 from a crownvic, I can tell you that the alt bolt can not be removed without removing the radiator, might want to check in to that before you are are stranded and cant remove the alt.
Nice and clean looking truck. Can you show some pics of the bay from a bit further back?
I really big on clean and neat engine bays and hiding as many of the hoses and wires as possible. I love that "floating" engine look. Prob not the look your going for though.
Engine bay pics for The Outlaw. EBEAR, there is a pusher fan on front of radiator. Will probably put in a pair when I put the new radiator in. Cokeb5, thanks for the heads up about the alternator removal, looks like mine is about same.
And instead of doing several different runs and then zip typing them together get a larger size loom and have a single bundle.
Also maybe go through and clip the ends of the zip ties as well as take off the long extra part of the hose clamps.
I'd get rid of those stickers on the valve covers. Classy truck like yours those just don't fit the theme. As well as maybe something a bit more classic looking than the standard air cleaner?
When every I'm designing something I always find that one piece in a specific are to make as the point of focus. Then work around that. Making sure that the viewers attention goes to that and then maybe can look away from some of the others things that can't be cleaned up.
Here is my engine bay. I'm just getting to building my inner fenders. So they are not in the truck yet. And I've not organized the plug wires yet. So excuse the tangle. Same with the heater hose. They are extra long right now as the idea is to hide them under the inner fenders as much as possible. I used the top radiator mount as a focal point.
