Question Interchanging 5R110s

I just picked up a 2004 6.0, into 3 hours of owning it the transmission went out. Starts out in 2nd gear, have to feather the throttle really hard to get it to move and than it bangs real hard when it goes into a gear. Tow haul light flashes constantly so im sure this trans is more than done. Im looking at getting a used transmission to put back in it as I will send my orginal one out to be built for the power the truck has. My question being I have a couple hook ups on some 2005, and a particular low milage 2006 transmission. All transmissions out of 6.0s, but would they work in my 2004?

There are differences in the gear ratios between the 2003-2004 and the 2005-2007 trucks. You should be ok, but I'll tap Mark Kovalski to confirm the details.

I pm’d Mark so we’ll have the details soon.

I know that the 2008-2010 transmissions are built a little stronger and certain internal parts are different as far as design.

I'd change the temp sensor before I changed out the trans. They can go bad without any warning. Cheap fix, fluid costs more than the part.

When my trans failed I was going to get a used 6.4 trans since the shop I had it at offered to sell me one for $400.

I only wanted to spend the money once, so I just had mine rebuilt and upgraded. Although, with what I went through with the rebuilder, I should’ve just swapped in the 6.4 trans and gone down the road.

Yes, the later trans will work.

Do you have a backup plan if the new trans has the exact same issue as the current trans? What I'm getting at is that since you haven't read the codes how do you know the trans is bad? What if the problem is a wiring issue?

Awesome. If new(used) trans doesnt work im finding someone that will refund me if incase its something else. Im betting on a transmission though, the truck makes close to about 600HP on a stock trans. The orginal owners never uploaded the trans tune on it for the modifications it has. Im having an issue with it starting out in 2nd and really having to feather the throttle to get it to go and once it finally does it bangs into gear. The converter is not locking up like it was when I first got it, and tow haul light flashes now. When I go to put it into gear I really have to fight it too. I dont know for sure that the trans is bad, but im betting in it. I had no issues until I did one good solid burnout and that was all it wrote.

Then it might be done, like done-done.

Did you see any clutch material in the pan?
