I am officially popping my cherry and writing my first post so hooray for me.
Firstly I have to say this is a great site and its fantastic the support and advice people give on here so keep it up everyone!
I have had a bit of a look on here for what people have done wheel and tyre wise and I am still having a bit of trouble figuring out what I want. I have a 1978 f100 2wd stock height. I want to go 17 inch wheels and I am still deciding between 265/70r17 or 275/65r17 tyres so anyone who has those on their trucks it would be great to see some pics. What I am really trying to find info on though is what people have negative offset wise. I want a bit of a deep dish look without the tyre smashing into my front fender every time I hit a bump.
Also if anyone reckons that other size wheels or tyres look better let me know. I am open to ideas
I had stock 93-'95 Ford Lightning wheels at one point on mine. They are 17x8 with 4.5" of backspacing and 275/60r17 tires. Nice wide tire that's not too short on a stock height 2wd.
4" backspacing on an 8" wide wheel is ok also. My current 15x8" wheels have like 3-3/4" backspace with a 255/70-15 in the rear and that is pushing it. I had to trim the pieces of inner panel that stick out a bit from the wheel well lip due to rubbing the sidewall. I am lowered 3"/5" though bit the look and stance is great.
These are the wheels I had on before. 15 x 10 front and rear with 33x12.5r15 tyres. They did just rub when I had a full load of wood in the rear but if I hit a good bump my front fenders would cop a good whack.
