Cold air intanks

Have any of you guy put a cold air intank on your 17 PSD? My air filter is all ready dirty at 10k and at $113 price tag! I was thinking about going with the intank route was looking at a AFE one maybe.

I doubt any oiled element will keep as much dust out of your motor as the OEM paper filter.
I won't use these off road anymore. They simply let too much dust in.

The general consensus that I've seen, and my own personal experience says it's a waste of money. It'll make things a little louder and doesn't do much, if anything for mileage.

If you're going to keep your truck stock, stay with the stock intake.

In saying that when I hit 15k miles, I'm going to delete my truck and tune it with PPEI via Ez Lynk. I'm also going to replace my air intake with a S&B dry filter intake. Its cheaper than AFE and I like the design allot better. Also most aftermarket companies use S&B filters.

#1, It's an INTAKE.
#2, Cold air intakes are a farce & a waste of money. An open filter under the hood is only going to suck in WARM air from the engine compartment. On my 2012 with a stock intake & a tuner, my intake air temperature is always within 1-2 degrees of the outside air temperature reading on the dash while moving down the road. You can't get any better than that.

Hot air intakes do nothing. In fact, many rob your vehicle of horsepower. Automotive companies spends many many dollars and hours developing the design of their intakes. I must admit, some aftermarket intakes do make a great noise though.

I’ve never been concerned with the air temperature in the tank.

At some point, more air is required when running aggressive tuning. The 6.4s needed em when running anything 200HP+. My 2012 would freak out with the Spartan Warhammer (200HP) file when I got in the throttle. It would derate with CELs. So, I put an S&B on it.

On a stock truck, they aren't worth it. On a truck you plan to run aggressive tuning on, I would recommend one.

I guarantee that the stock intake will flow as much as the rest of the system will. Without MAJOR modifications, the heads, valves, exhaust system, etc. are not going to flow any more than the stock intake. Tuning alone will not increase the flow of the hard parts. Take them to the limits of their capabilities, MAYBE.

Unless you are getting a Volant Powercore intake with a Donaldson filter, you are wasting your money.

Well I can say living in Alaska I get plenty of COLD AIR. So it’s really not a waste of money to me.

I also don’t run aggressive running.
