1960 F100, 3 on tree, 223. The shifter will only go into 2nd and neutral. It quit working normally just a couple of days ago. In searching on this forum for a solution, it seems the problem may be bushings and washers locking up the movements. Does anyone know where that I can find these parts? The vendors that I normally use don’t seem to have them.
Look under the hood, probably the shifter arm has jumped out of place. Manually shift it so the center pin lines up with the center of both arms in neutral. When the get worn it can jump past. You can get by with sloppiness if you shift slower and more deliberately
That hanging up problem is an old one. I have to shift mine in a particular way or it will not go from one shifting lever to the other. The thrust washers, I think they may be called in the assembly that is mounted on the steering column tube also cause trouble when worn .I have yet to find a source for those little buggers. When I shift out of first and head to second, I have to take the lever almost up to reverse and then go to second to have it not get bound up. This is with new bushings and insulators on the selector arms. Kind of part of it's personality.
