I am towing a little heavy with my 2017 F250 6.7 crew cab short bed. I’m thinking about changing out the spring blocks to lower the rear and adding SumoSprings, instead of air bags, in case it puts me too close to the OEM bump stops under load. These are a lot cheaper and easier than going with air bags and a compressor setup.
I want to lower the rear to level it out but still want to get into my garage and make it a little easier to get into or reach over into the bed.
Anyone know anything about these Stops (SumoSprings) or have other ideas?
I have a set of these on my F450 and had a set on a 2011 f350 dually for several years. Sumo springs are glorified bump stops and I use them to limit rear suspension travel when towing heavy. The f350 had a vibration when starting off under extra load (like pulling out from a parking lot with the rear wheels in the gutter). The Sumo springs, once adjusted to the right height resolved the problem. I put them on my F450 because I lowered the rear slightly and wanted more control over the bump stop height. I haven't had them on the f450 long enough to speak to the overload spring benefits. Airbags obviously provide way more adjustability but that wasn't a requirement for me.
I put Timbren springs on my 2017 F350 and my previous truck----both on the front axle to handle the extra weight of a snowplow. I like them MUCH BETTER than airbags (they leak, and you have to adjust the air)---Timbren springs just quietly work when you need them---otherwise, you never know they are there. They are a very high quality product. Timbren springs are available for the rear axle as well. Home - Timbren Industries Inc. Suspension Products

I'm a Timbren advocate too. Put them on the vehicle and they just plain work. I had them front and rear on a 6.7 Cummins Ram for 9 years. Helped carry my Boss V plow, made the front end ride smoother empty or loaded...let me pull a 12,000 lb Work and Play toyhauler w/o dragging my tail. They'll be going on my F250 when I buy a slide in camper in the spring.
I put Timbrens in the rear, P/N FRTT350J, after speaking with a Timbren engineer about my truck camper application. I similarly didn't want the complication of airbags. Happy so far with how the truck is carrying a 4000 pound camper.
For $350, you can install Airlift 5000 Ultimates with a built in bump stop. No need for a compressor as airing them up and down is simple. That is minimal cost for full adjustability. Skip the Sumo's and do it right.
