bad bolt

Post bad bolt

having trouble getting the rear bolt out. this is the one holding the turbo in place.

any help? tricks that work?

doing a bullet proofing. (egr cooler, outside the motor oil cooler) so turbo needs to come out.
the front rt bolt was not even there. so i guess this turbo has been replaced? worked over?

the other two bolts came out no problem.

i have a 06 year so not my bolt.
mine is in the vertical. just having trouble keeping a socket on it. as the extension allows the socket to "tilt" off the bolt head.
i did here it "crack" once (all others did crack twice?) so started to come loose but not enough to remove it.
going back at it this am, working outside so need sunlight to see anything. plus it is getting cold at night right now.

10mm stubby gear wrench, or a small 1/4 drive ratchet with a shallow socket. Not sure why you need an extension? I'm pretty sure my ratchet is about 4.5" long.

6 point drive. The 12 point scocket or wrench tend to round off the heads.
Also there should only be 3 bolts.

tried anew today and got it out, found the third bolt under the turbo mount.

sorry i should have given a better description in the threads first posting.
forgive me i am old, and was tired.

intake is off now (taking my time), gunky (wet) black **** in the intake block runners.
not looked into the intake manifold yet. egr valve was clean & shinny.

but time for lunch. and go get more cans of cleaner. maybe i should burn a half day (65 miles from here one way) and go buy a solvent tank at el-cheapo tools. or a large oil drain pan --still sell them? and couple-four gallons of solvent? (can do nothing thur-sunday --work).

Did you make the EGR shiny or did it come out that way? Could have been steam cleaned which means the EGR cooler is likely leaking.

You can get nice big tubs at Home Depot....concrete mixing tub's...2 sizes...big and bigger

I never had to deal with the easier newer turbos. On the earlier design that leverage trick helped me twice.

yes it came out like that. was steamed cleaned from a leaky egr cooler. but the intake is all black gunked up.

i have a number of 5 gallon buckets here (use them to sort brass before reloading them). free.

i am not new to working on gas motors, (rebuilt my first race car motor -ford 260-at age 14). got a number of decades on that age now.
