Well I finally have decent oil pressure in my 351M and after driving 2450 miles across the country its still going. The high oil pressure is because the crankcase is full of gasoline which explains why $15 in gas got me 30 miles.
Its a 1979 351 M with 104335 miles on the clock. My dad said something about the fuel pump but I don't know. Just curious what the heck to do.
Does it normally make a noise that can sound like lifter noise upon acceleration too? I was thinking I was going ot need a head reworked too, but my dad said that they make some noises that can sound like engine noise. I'm not sure.
I'm not the best Ford man but I would think that gas in the oil would be from a malfunction in the carb as in a stuck float or ?. The one vehicle I owned that got gas in the oil was a 71 Grand Prix. The problem turned out to be a bent metering rod in the Rochester Q-jet letting gas flood into the intake and wash down past the valves. I bent the rod straight and it ran fine after that.
I changed the oil 3 times in about 500 miles after and ended up with one internaly clean engine.
Well it runs so I doubt that there is a problem with the carb. Its a stock 2150 Motorcraft. The motor is completley stock internals too. Its a good thing that fuel pumps are cheap though. The ones for FE motors is about $75 mine is $16.
I know that I have to change the filter and oil, that was a given, one of the many things I learned here. I pulled the dipstick and there wasn't any metal flake so I don't think there has been any bearing damage.
i do the fuel pump b/c if it was the carb u would be blowing black out the pipe n running rough, if there is gas in the oil it could cause the lifters to tick and what ever else in the motor isnt being lubed
could be carb also but doubt it mine truck wouldn't start the other dat so I left it went out next day and smelled gas the carb was gunked up and had filled upp on presure and was dripping gas every ware motor ground I check the oil 7 quart over needless to say the old beast got a new carb and fuel pump now if I ever get to drive it
All,
This is not a carb problem. This is a Ford problem. If you owned one of these old pushrod motors with a mechanical pump, its happened to you.
The diaprham ruptures and the fuel is pumped into the crankcase. This in turn thins the oil and the lifters tap. It's an extreme case but two miles to the gallon shows how bad this problem is.
Good Luck,
KingFisher
PS Hope your bearings have survived.
Matt, you need to replace the pump, and change the oil before starting it. With that much gasoline in the oil, the crankcase fumes could explode, and ruin your day fast.......
