Well, I found a supplier for the correct screws used on the 1948 through at least '49 truck headliners. The fastener kit you get from DC, Mac's, and everyone else, is not what originally came on these trucks. Their kits use Phillips head screws, original is slotted. The ones I found just came in today, and are spot-on in appearance. Only difference is that they are stainless, not machine steel. One could leave them shiny if so desired, or do as I am doing, and paint them gloss/semi-gloss black for the original look.
If you want proper looking screws, just go to your local Fastenal store and take an original, or even one of the new ones, and tell them you want the slotted version.
If you don't have a Fastenal near you, send me a PM and I can shoot you what you need, as I bought 500 of the things (never know how many '49 Ford trucks I may end up with). I am just guessing, but it looks like a headliner kit takes about 20 screws. Pay postage and you got them.
