Stock 460 what heads?

I have a stock 460 with d3 a2a heads which are 98 cc. I want a pair of edelbrockd wich are 72-75 cc. Is it worth it ? What would the compression be if factory is 8:1

Selecting cylinder heads can be a hard task. What your selection comes down to is what you want to do with the engine. Edelbrock makes a few different versions of the 460 head, both in smallport and cj port. From my research, I believe that the edelbrock cylinder heads, both versions are nearly the worst flowing aluminium cylinder head on the market. I have done sets of cast iron heads that flow much better. Btw, smallport heads will deliver more torque on the low end, when combined with a proper cam than a cj head. Don't expect to just bolt on a set of these heads and expect a big power increase without changing other things. The compression ratio will increase, and you can calculate how much by using a online calculator.

Well what are good heads that I can run that will allow me to have good all around power. Because right now I have a 296 duration cam 520 lift. Strait up timing chain. And I want the 72cc chambers to raise the compression from 8.1 to ? Just curious on what it would raise it too. Would there be a way you can do it for me because those calculators never work for me

The 72cc heads are 26.54% smaller than the 98cc heads. If your compression ratio is 8.00:1 a 26.54% increase yields a 10.12:1 ratio. That is with changing nothing else. For a street engine I would go with small port heads.

What year is your “stock†460? Early blocks had a lower deck height resulting in higher compression.

The early (pre-1972) blocks had a 10.300" deck height while the later blocks had a 10.322". I have a C9 block that was milled to reduce the amount of piston to deck clearance.
