Back bench headrest
headrests on the back bench of Excursion's? I'm surprised that
Ford has not come up with a retro fit. Are the 04's coming out with headrests? I'm concerned because I have 4 boy's and consider head rests to be a key safety feature in the event of a
rear end accident. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you find any websites you could recommend?
Please let me know, as I would be strongly interested of installing some on my '03 X as well..
Thanks ahead of time...

resort will look at buying all the hardware from the second
bench at a wrecking yard and will install myself. You would
think with all the Super Duties running around someone
in the aftermarket would offer this.
Will post later if I find something and/or how the installation
went in.

Visit your local auto upholstery shop. Most can add rear heardests by cannibalizing headrests from a different vehicle. The original outboard headrests from the second row would be nice but they retail at around $275.00 from Ford.
It would be easier to just "hard" mount them. Meaning: non adjustable for height.
Not having rear headrests was the most aggravating thing about my Excursion when I had it and the thing I like most about my 03 Expy. That, and the lack of inboard shoulder belts...but that's another thread.
FYI, the 04 Super Duty crew cabs have headrests in the rear (finally). They are teeny-tiny but the parts may be cheaper. Who knows...

I don't consider it as such and in 3 years of ownership of two X's never have...
typically it's children that sit back there with us and they are shorter than the seat
I also consider myself an aware and better than average driver that can AVOID the accident that is such a concern...With ANY product there has to be a cost/threat justification for each item or the cost of the product will be out of range for most people....
Just like the city of dallas suing ford because their crown Vic's couldn't sustain an 85 mph rear end crash !!!!!
How STUPID is that ?
NOTHING can sustain an 85 MPH rear end crash ! Well MAYBE an Abrams tank,,,,
but the fuel bills and damage to the roadways MIGHT be a deterent for them

And most of the blame MIGHT lay with the drunk going 85 mph and not with Ford !
Someone in this world has to develop some common sense... and I think that starts at the judicial level to not encourage the lawsuits...
deny some of the frivolous claims...
Life is dangerous... much less so here than in most parts of the world, but none the less dangerous....

Doesn't EVERYONE consider themselves to be a better than average driver...I've never met anyone who said they were a bad or even 'average' driver!
Also, I don't know how you can avoid the "accident that is such a concern." Headrests come into play mainly when you are hit from behind...not much you can do if someone fails to brake in time when they are tailgating you! Additionally, I find headrests to provide extra comfort on long road trips.
