New 6.0 owner here with a fairly stock 2006 F350 DRW low mileage truck (76k) I plan to keep for many years.
First off I want to know if the heads are blown and would like help diagnosing so I can figure out whether or not I need to stud. If i'm good, I plan on doing some immediate bullet proofing.
I do have high eot/ect deltas (12-16) on 70 mph drives. I plan on doing the oil cooler, BPD EGR, STC, blue spring and coolant filter, hopefully not studs. I do have a scangauge 2, not too dialed on it yet besides deltas.
So far I have seen this BPD video and concerned it's not definitive.
Most folks just plumb a gauge in at the degas and drive it. I've read anywhere from 8-12 psig is typical at operating temperature (190-195). Mine is usually around 10-11 at that temperature. Although it won't be linear, you should see a correlation between temp and pressure, and it should remain fairly independent of short-duration high engine loads.
Assuning you bought a dually for towing, I'd put a load behind it and see how it does as well. Seems like I've read a few threads where an unloaded truck can mask a gasket issue but can't when put under a load.
You can also vent the coolant system at temperature, drive it hard for a bit, and open the cap again. Assuming the pre-vent temps are similar, you should have little pressure buildup. Definitely less quantitative than the former but could do in a pinch.
