Lucky guy.I've been wanting to do this with mine. The forum has hammered by me with vs conversion stuff. The van is close to vs size. But the vw is about 1 1/2 foot longer. I had swing away tire carriers and other goodies I wanted to install. The ranger guys have a lot of info for the transfer case swap.the front diff is carp. It will come apart. You can install a real Dana 28th in it. We ha e a hybrid junker.keep in touch

I had a '78 vw camper years ago, and have been looking at vanagon westys, but they've gone stupid in price. I've never seen an Aerostar camper before; maybe just wasn't paying attention. This GTRV conversion is nice, and I'm looking forward to making it a bit of a 4x4, but a mild one; probably 215/75x14 tires, max.

Thanks for the pics and making me cry. I wish my van look that cool. Mine is zero rust but needs tlc upkeep. I bought it off the original owner with 153 on the clock. And i need major service. Just my 2 cents I measured the back bumper of our van and called go westy. A Westfield swing away tire mount with a ladder is the same size as ours. I got a brand new real mig welder I haven't used yet. I'm holding off UNTILL i replace my transfer case. I drawled up plans for a poptop hard side roof sleeper. I might make instead of spending 2 grand for a tent. Thanks again ill be dreaming tonight.
